Welcome to another week of ponderings at The LifeWalk!
Have you ever wondered how some people can get away with saying almost anything? It doesn’t matter what it is. They can be dead serious or joking (or both) but they can say odd or outlandish things and people will hang on their every word!
This week I have an amusing example of just that…
If you say something with enough confidence, folks will believe you.
Case in point, a former coworker used to tell people (usually customers) about his famous ramen soup recipe. He would start telling them about the fabulous miso broth we sold, and how he added some vegetables and noodles (of course, you have to have the perfect noodles). By this point, they were hooked with the simple, delicious recipe he described. Then he would tangent off and name an odd ingredient. Today it might be mustard, tomorrow maybe applesauce. It didn’t matter, but whatever he chose, that was the secret ingredient.
We used to joke about his famous ramen recipe, since he really didn’t know how to cook ramen. Or at least he had never tried.
With confidence and poise, you can convince anyone of just about anything. Wear a name tag, carry a business card, assume authority. You will have people eating ramen out of the palm of your hand.
It’s been a few years since I worked with Brian, but the other day his girlfriend (who I still work with) mentioned she had something to show me. She was so excited! She whipped out her phone and opened up a photo of a beautiful, delicious looking bowl of ramen. I looked at her questioning. Then she said HE made it!
I don’t know how the ramen tasted, but the picture looks amazing! And I don’t know what finally prompted Brian to actually try to make ramen, whether he finally sold himself on what a fabulous ramen chef he actually is or just got hungry enough to try.
If we can amaze and impress others with our confident statements (made up or otherwise), why can’t we amaze ourselves and believe whatever we want to be true? We just might surprise ourselves at just how we can make anything we think or say into reality.

Love this! "If we can amaze and impress others with our confident statements (made up or otherwise), why can’t we amaze ourselves and believe whatever we want to be true? We just might surprise ourselves at just how we can make anything we think or say into reality." So true. Our thoughts are incredibly powerful. And the ramen looks scrumptious. Just subscribed! 💖💖💖
When I did the illustration for my “hero/introductory post”, I wrote writer and illustrator. At the time, I didn’t feel like I could say I was in the same realm as paid writers or artists, but I believed I still was a writer and illustrator.
Sometimes the bold declaration is the spring board that we never knew we needed. Thanks for that reminder. xx
