’Tis the season for holiday traditions.
We’re expected to host family gatherings. We’re expected to give gifts. We’re expected to attend various festive events. We’re expected to share the joy of the season to friends and strangers alike.
That’s an awful lot of expectations. And for some, I do mean awful.
Certainly there is joy in giving, and there’s joy in this season of awaiting the light in the darkness, but how much of what we do is out of pure joy? How much of it is simply habit. And how much is just tolerated due to expectations?
I’m going to try something a little different this year.
I will enjoy what truly brings me joy.
I will avoid the “expectations” if they are just tolerations.
I will try new things to celebrate the season in place of the stale habits.
I invite you to do the same.
