Why is it that as soon as we think we know the answers to all of our problems, new issues inevitably show up?
We try something, it doesn’t feel right, we quit.
We try something, it doesn’t feel right, we quit.
We try something, it works for us, we keep doing it, but then something else presents itself that doesn’t feel right so we adjust.
A friend shares a new diet that worked wonders for her. We try that new diet, but it doesn’t work for us. What gives?
Another friend shares his success in online marketing. We try that same method, but it doesn’t work for us. But why?
We are constantly looking for the right answers: the right way to live, the best job or career, the best way to raise our children. We research, we read, we watch videos, we gather advice from others and are usually left with more questions than answers.
There’s no right answer.
There’s no best way.
Your life is an experiment to create your answer and your best way.
Let’s look at the way you raise your children, for example. What you did was likely influenced by how you were raised, society’s expectations at the time, and the resources you had available to you.
You might look back now and think, “Damn, I really messed that up!” I should have done….
No, you shouldn’t have. You did what you knew at the time and hindsight is irrelevant. You can’t go back and re-do it. You can’t even guide someone else to do it differently now. Someone else might use your input, but their resources and experiences are different from yours and now is different from then.
They will need to find their own way. And they will.
So, simply understand that life is an experiment. Try things on for size. discard what doesn’t work for you and try the next thing.
Keep moving forward, focusing on today with one eye on tomorrow. Leave yesterday’s experiments behind.
